I Found My Passion, Let's Find Yours

I remember when I used to obsess over finding my passion. The need to do something that I really loved was so strong, I don't even know why. I had to consciously calm myself down and understand that I had to be patient and let my passion find me. But while waiting, I did a few things...

But wait a minute! Before I continue, let me ask, what does the word "passion" mean to you? Perhaps we should take a look at that before we continue. Hold on while I consult google...

*******

Okay i'm back!

According to my google search, Passion is a "strong and barely controllable emotion"

So from this definition, I would say that when you are passionate about something, you get excited at the thought of that thing, sometimes your heart may even skip a bit, and you get super happy whenever you get the chance to learn/get new stuff relating to what you are passionate about and whenever you meet people that are passionate about the same thing as you, you suddenly feel like you've found your long lost brother/sister or something...okay maybe it's not that serious, but you get what i'm trying to say.

But that's just my point of view. What would YOU say it means to be passionate about something? Please let me know by dropping a comment below.

So back to the few things I did.

Because I couldn't just sit there and do nothing while waiting for my passion to come knocking, I decided to make some moves. You should also try this exercise if you want to figure out what your passion is.

  1. I wrote down all the things I was interested in (at least passion must dey inside one of them na, abi?)
  2. I wrote down all the things I was good at or skilled in
  3. I wrote down different ways I could improve in these area.
There was an interesting turn of events though, what I eventually discovered to be my passion wasn't even in the list, but something else that led to that discovery was in the list.

So after writing down all these things, I considered all the steps I needed to take to improve in these areas. All this happened around the time I started this blog, and like I said in this post, I started this blog because of my love for fashion (which was one of my interests).

When you have a blog, you discover that you have to create images to go with some of your blog posts. I discovered that I enjoyed the process of creating these images and I loved the satisfaction I got from a nicely designed image, so that was how, ladies and gentlemen, I found my passion for graphics design through my blog. I improved on this new passion by learning with online videos and tutorials, hence I call myself a "self-taught graphics designer" *bragging right alert*

The process of finding your own passion might be more straightforward that mine was. It might just be you improving on that particular thing you are very interested in. You might even be passionate about something right now without realizing it, hopefully this post will help you come to that realization.

So you are probably wondering why you need to find your passion in the first place. The question is why not??? Why shouldn't you find your passion and go through life doing something you love? You can even decide to turn your passion into a paycheck.

I'm sure you have heard of that saying that goes "do what you love and you will never work a day in your life", that is a very good reason why you should find your passion and harness it, harness it because the fact that you are passionate about it doesn't necessarily mean you are good at it, it is that passion that will be your fuel and driving force to improving and becoming the best you can be.

This post is kind of an introduction to a series I'm going to start about the different designs I have come up with since I started harnessing my passion. I don't know what the series is going to be called yet though, but it's coming soon to a Miss Purpleheart blog post on a screen near you.

So tell me, What would you say it means to be passionate about something? what's your passion and how did you discover it?

If you haven't discovered your passion yet, you should really take the exercise above, and if you feel up to it, share your responses with me in the comments section below. Let's help you discover your passion!

Truly yours,
*hugs and purple "mwah's"*
