Musings | On Music and Moods

My musings give you either a sneak peak or full view of what goes on in my ever active mind...some crazy, some sane...hopefully you can relate. Let's relate! :)

I always say "Music is food to the soul"...I mean, I feel there is something almost spiritual about music. The way the beats and rhythm just flow...you just feel it deep within. Does anybody else agree?

There are times when I feel really down and under, times when a funny joke cannot even make me crack a smile and then I plug in my earphones and I just get lost...I get lost and then find myself in this extremely happy place. I particularly like to listen to the background sounds and beats, I don't know what it's called...music people please help me here...like that's just what gets me. Sometimes the words kind of fade and I get lost in those background tunes.

I really don't know what it is about music that can just instantly change your mood from sad to extremely jumpy and happy...or from tense to relaxed or from angry to calm. There are also those songs that make you want to fall in love, or if you're already in love, they make you feel more love (I think).

I was watching a Nigerian talk show one day and one of the hosts said she listens to hard metal rock whenever she is very angry, it somehow calms her down. See ehn! music is powerful. It's starting to  look like something beyond explanation to me...well, not exactly beyond explanation, because apparently some scientists have an explanation for this, but I really don't want to put any "sciency " reason to something so beautiful, so i'm not going to quote any scientist here...but I will quote this:
"Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life"

~ Berthold Auerbach

There are even those people that listen to sad heartbreaking songs after they just got their heart broken, yeah we see them a lot in movies, and I wonder, doesn't that just make you even more sad? Or I guess wallowing in sadness is some form of coping mechanism. Do you listen to depressing songs when you're sad too? Can you say why?

Tell me about your experience with this beautiful thing called music. How does it affect your mood? What kind of songs do you listen to when you're happy, angry or sad? What is that particular song that gets to you EVERY time? I can't tell you any particular one I love because I discover new favorites everyday. Are you like me? Please share with me in the comments below.

P.S.: I literally had to hold myself back from flooding this post with quotes about music, I hope you like the "few" I have put up (and below) for you. Can you tell that I like quotes a little too much? Click HERE if you want to view more quotes.

P.P.S.: Omawunmi's "In the Music" kept playing in my head while I typed this post, so i'm going to leave it HERE for you to listen. Enjoy!

Truly yours,
