Facing your demons

Every single human walking the face of the earth has their demons, from the little baby who cries when the room goes dark, to the old man with creaky joints struggling to move around and thinking about all his life's worries. We all have demons at one point or the other, but the question is, do we face these demons? Do we fight them?

They say the only way out of a problem is through it, and that is the case with these demons, the only way to get rid of them is to face them and fight them. Still don't know what I mean by demons? Let me explain...

There are times when you may feel overwhelmed with all that is going on around you, so overwhelmed that you may think you can no longer handle it. Times when all you see and feel is the pain, grief, sadness or hopelessness. These are your demons at work, and they can come disguised in different forms; failure, anxiety, low self worth, pain, anger, jealousy, depression...and the list goes on.

So how do you face these demons?

Recognize their presence
If you choose to ignore what is happening or you continually suppress your feelings, you miss the opportunity to grow. Recognizing your demons is one step closer to getting rid of them, the fight with these demons helps you become stronger. Like I said earlier, the only way out of a problem is through it.

Seek help
If you feel you are not strong enough to face this on your own, seek help from an outside source. It could be a relative, friend, therapist, or a religious leader. Get as much help and support as you can, it will go along way in helping you get rid of your demons, but as you do this, remember that the help you get is only a support for your personal fight, nobody else can help you fight your demons but you.

Find you courage
I believe that everybody comes with in-built courage, courage to face our fears, jealousy, anger, guilt and all negative feelings. It may appear scary at first, but once we find ourselves in the situation, the courage automatically kicks in. How? I'll explain...
Have you ever been really ill? Experienced a terrible breakup? Moved to a new place where you knew nobody? Survived an abusive childhood? Experienced the death of a loved one? Survived financial crisis?...If you have experienced anything remotely similar to what I have stated above, then I tell you this today, you are courageous, because you faced those demons.

If we try to suppress and bury our demons, we give them power, but by facing them, we regain power and control of our lives and our actions, we get back to the top of our game.

Once you realize that you are strong and brave enough to conquer your demons, the rest will fall in line. If you sought help from anyone, apply the advice gotten. Make a conscious effort to fight everyday. It won't be easy, but remember that you are courageous. Persevere! You may not notice as your demons retreat, but as the weeks and months roll by, you will feel the difference and eventually will be free. Don't give up!
