spotting the DOTS: How to style the DOTS!

Polka dots are a very classic elements in the world of fashion , they give your outfit a kind of old-school funk, but they never look dated! A polka dotted piece ALWAYS adds some sass to an outfit.

Some may see polka dots as somewhat childish or juvenile (remember Minnie Mouse? :D) but in truth, they can be worn in a playful yet matured manner, you could put together a polka dotted outfit that's perfect for work or for a relaxed weekend.

Polka dots are instant eye catchers, be it a clothing item or an accessory, whether they are big dots or small dots, rock 'em with confidence! It could be quite difficult to style and accessorize a polka dotted piece...i would know cos I've been caught in such a fix many times before, and I've finally figured it out *phew*...so i'm gonna share a few ways in which you can wear your polka's...

#Go solid!

Pair your polka pieces with accessories or clothing pieces of solid colors...
Tip: If your outfit is white with black dots or black with white dots, pair with bright, fun solid colors to give a bit of an edge to your outfit.

#Polka 'n' Polka

It is actually acceptable to mix two different polka dotted pieces ONLY IF:
- The two pieces are of the same color scheme (check my previous post here on how to combine colors).
- The dots are of different sizes

#Stripes 'n' Polka

When we think of stripes and polka dots, they don't seem to go together in the mind...but in the actual sense, they are a very great combo

#Animal print 'n' Polka (Spots 'n' Spots)

Yea i know! Another odd combo...its difficult to picture this two prints together but they go quite well together. If you're not the adventurous kind and not ready to go all out, you can start with baby steps; animal print accessories on polka dot...and maybe tiny polka dots on large animal print and vice versa to tone down the outfit a bit...

#Polka your Accessories

Accessorizing is the easiest way to incorporate polka dots into an outfit if you wanna keep the look clean and simple...pair your polka dotted accessories with solid colored outfits.

#See through...POLKA

I particularly love this one, dunno why, but i have a big thing for see through pieces, especially blouses...the polka dots give the see through outfit a really sexy and classy (SASSY!) look...i can't really explain how or why, it just does!
